How Far Would You Go?

How Far Would You Go?

I was recently reading on one of the mail groups several posts that were entitled "How Far Would You Go?" The story was of one fellow's exploits from "Down Under" after a football match being "put upon by four or five bad guys from the opposing side and punching one guy in the teeth" and kicking another one or two, which cause the others to flee.

The term bunkai literally translated means to break open or to cut open. Chinen Sensei uses the analogy of an apple being split open exposing the core, the kata… Continue

Babysitting in the dojo

I have been studying Budo for the past 37 years and over those years we have all seen the fads, the movies, the change in attitudes and respect. I guess I just need to vent by myself out loud and if anyone is listening that is fine , but more of long winded kiai for the purging of the soul and mind.

I no longer have my own dojo as the challenges of teaching a traditional dojo in an economically depressed environment were not always very profitable or successful. Sure..great students but alas th… Continue
